Neem for Organic Farming

Organic farming refers to an agricultural production system, wherein plants and crops are grown without the use of any synthetic fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides, fumigants etc. This method of growing crops relies on crop rotation, animal manures and crop residues to ensure high yield and maximum growth of plants ad crops. This method also helps to maintain the soil productivity, ensures sufficient supply of nutrients to plant. All organic foods are required to be certified under an organic certification program. Neem tree has hundreds of terpenoid compounds; the most active and used compound being azadirachtin is used widely in different agricultural products.

Pests and insects do not develop resistance to these natural products .As compared to the synthetic pesticides, neem based pesticides do have any after effects on plants or other living beings.

Neem used for stored grains: Neem extracts have been used to protect stored grains from pests. It is estimated that approximately 10% of the entire stored grains are lost due to pest infestation. Neem seed extracts help to protect paddy and other stored grains and keeps them safe for months.

Neem Fumigation: Neem based fumigant is increasingly being used in a number of countries for its effectiveness and non toxicity. This natural product not only protects the plants but also acts as a soil conditioner.
